Life is a journey for all of us and people seek therapy for a variety of reasons. Regardless of why, therapy is a great tool to reconnect with your inherent strengths, when you're feeling stuck, unhappy, or disempowered. Although it can't "fix" everything in your life, it can help you to better cope with life's difficulties.
I regard people as their own best expert on self, and see myself as one who joins and guides in the process of exploration and growth. My goal is to facilitate an individual's awareness and understanding of self, and to help them develop new strategies to improve the quality of your life, regardless of the cirmcustances.
Finding the right therapist is the first step, as having a trusting therapeutic relationship is the most significant factor in effective treatment. You need to feel connected and understood in order to share your authentic self, and be held in a space of gentleness. My empathic capacities will enable you to feel safe enough to explore the places inside. Yet, I do also very much believe humor can be quite helpful during the healing process.
I've always been intrigued by the human mind and heart, and how we have learned to function in the world-not in good or bad ways, but just coming to understand that some of our 'old' ways that we relied on to survive, sometimes no longer work for us in our current life. I ended up studying literature in college, lived abroad for awhile, and then started a career in sales. I learned in sales that I really had no interest in selling, but that I was most intrigued by all of the unique individuals I was able to meet. Ultimately I realized that counseling was my calling. I completed my Masters of Arts degree in counseling at Naropa University in 2002, and then moved to Portland to pursue my passion- here I am.
